POLL: Text to Donate – Are you in or out?

Last week I wrote about Alicia Keyes text to donate campaign on MobileMarketingWatch.com and it got me to thinking about whether or not I would donate by text message. Would you?

BTW, I decided that I would if it was a charity to which I would normally donate. Not sure if I would jump in donating this way to a new charity. Personally, I would really love it if one of my favorite radio shows (Dom and Jane – in Denver on 100.3) would use it for their annual Thanksgiving marathon. It is just such a pain to call in and pledge a donation and then have to remember to send it in. And since I listen in the car, I could just get my donation done at a stop light.

  1. Donating via text message to me seems as casual as buying a can of soda from a vending machine.

The pledge drive idea is intriguing. But I think psychologically I need to have a less impersonal medium to donate:
    – I want to speak with a human.
    – I want reassurance that my donation (no matter how small) is going to be used the way I intended.
    – I want to be thanked.

  2. I would consider SMS donation, definitely. However, since money is involved, I have to make sure that my donation will be given to the proper recipients.

  3. As a NPO we are looking into ‘text to donate’ technology. Our issue are the fees involved w/ doing it… I am proud to say that in our org. 100% of donated funds go to the ministry (not salaries, equipment, etc.) We do understand the ‘spend money to make money argument though…
